Greenhouse

This picture was one of the ones that I felt captured some of the beauty of the greenhouse and the variety of the plants. The blackish purple and red leaves contrast with the typical green plants and trees that surround it. The sun peeks through just enough to maintain the illusion this could be outdoors, and creates a glistening appearance of the green leaves above the purple plant. Although this picture captures much of the greenhouses attractiveness, it doesn't catch most of the important things. The scent that makes you feel more alive, being engulfed by all the wildlife around you. The touch of the plants, the smoothness of some leaves and roughness of others. A picture might be able to capture a moment, but it has no way of capturing anything beyond the visual moment. The experience is made so much more extraordinary through the combinations of all your senses experiencing the greenhouse. I enjoyed seeing the variety of wildlife and thought it was an interesting environment.

Overall Readings

One of my favorite readings so far over the entire class, and the one that I think is the most thought-provoking reading would be Summer Day by Mary Oliver. It's in the form of poetry and has to deal with life and the world, and has a good tone of reverance and appreciation for the preciousness and complexities of life and the world that we all live in. She puts great detail in describing even the smallest of creatures, which gets across the mood of awe and her inspiration for this writing. She makes great insight into what she thinks the meaning of life is, an age old question that no one might be ever to answer except maybe for themselves. It doesn't necessarily matter what you believe in, because in the end you only have one shot at life and one life to live, so it's important that you live your one life to the fullest and make sure it's a happy life. When you die it'll seem like everything went by too fast, so it shouldn't matter what others think, just go out and do what makes you happy.
